The Naval War College Foundation was created in 1969 by forward-looking, community-minded individuals whose goals were to contribute to the educational excellence of the College. As the Foundation completes its 49th year, its commitment to the College remains firm.
The Foundation enriches and further enhances Naval War College programs as defense dollars diminish and the need for officers educated in international security affairs increases. The following are among the many important activities supported by the Foundation:
Increasing public awareness of the Naval War College mission, capabilities and accomplishments.
- Providing financial support to many projects at the College for which public funds are not available. These projects range from faculty research, curriculum development, and endowing academic chairs to nationally recognized speakers for the evening lecture series, academic awards for student achievement, and document and artifact acquisition for the library and Naval War College Museum.
- Providing financial support for specific symposia and conferences which further distinguish the College as a unique place of learning (e.g., the annual Professional Ethics Conference; the annual Current Strategy Forum; present and future worldwide security conferences; and workshops on topical issues).
- Assisting in sustaining an active alumni affairs program.
- Operating a Foundation Store in the College museum.
The Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Foundation funds are derived from individual and corporate membership contributions and grants received from individuals, other foundations and organizations.
